Advertising Law: New Year, New Rules

12.15.2009

Fredrikson & Byron, known as the firm “where law and business meet” is hosting the seminar “Advertising Law: New Year, New Rules” on December 15 at the U.S. Bank Plaza. Stephen Bergerson, John Pickerill, and Carrie Rosenberry will discuss very new developments in advertising law that require dramatic changes in the way companies promote their products and services.

The day begins with Stephen Bergerson, who will speak on the topic “Social Media Marketing: The Message is the Medium.” This session will provide eye-opening insights into the new legal abyss, covering viral, guerilla and word of mouth advertising & promotion, and consumer-generated content.

John Pickerill follows with a session on “The Legal Risks of Green Advertising.” This presentation will review the new Green Guides and the legal hotspots they create. Pickerill will talk about current green marketing laws, incorporating the Green Guides into advertising practices, frequently cited environmental standards, green terminology and its pitfalls, and emerging developments.

The last presenter of the day is Carrie Rosenberry, who will discuss “New FTC Rules for Using Social Marketing to Distribute Testimonials and Endorsements, and the FCC’s Renewed Interest in Product Placements and Branded Entertainment.” Rosenberry will explain how the world of influential marketing will change dramatically at the beginning of the New Year because of new rules that affect the use of product placements and branded entertainment. She will also cover how the new rules affect the use of ‘street teams’.
