Mentorship

Obi-Wan Kenobi cultivated the skills of a local farm boy. Master Po motivated his grasshopper with a single stone. Mr. Miyagi waxed nostalgic with a bullied teenager. Mentorships offer a unique path to self-discovery; whether you're the teacher or the student. But let's face it, this isn’t Hollywood. Fortunately, as an Ad Fed member the force is with you. The Mentorship Program is an opportunity to meet professionals who are knowledgeable, experienced, enthusiastic and committed to supporting the professional development of mentees. We call it turning hindsight into foresight.

Mentorship

The Ad Fed Mentorship Program is designed to allow members to interact with mentors by meeting them in an informal group setting called a Circle Group. Participants simply attend quarterly Circle Events where mentorship will happen via group discussions by area of interest. These are held four times a year.

Following each Circle Group Event, Ad Fed can facilitate the expression of interest for one-on-one mentorship by exchanging contact information between mentees and mentors. Once a pair says yes, it is easy! The mentee and mentor set their own goals, schedule, meeting forums/locations and topics. The rest is a fantastic experience for both the mentor and mentee to heighten the satisfaction they get from their respective careers.

Cost

FREE for members (non-member mentors may also participate for free). Thanks to our sponsors Digital People and The Times/Jitters Bar and Café the events include free appetizers and one free drink ticket. Registration is recommended but drop-ins are welcome.

Expectations/Commitments

MENTORS:

  • Group Mentorship: We welcome mentors that prefer to only participate in Circle Events as discussion facilitators for group mentorship.
  • One-on-One Mentorship: Commit no less than one 1 ½ hour meeting every other month during the course one year. Commit to making yourself available by phone or email between meetings. Read Ad Fed’s “Mentorship Orientation” before beginning program. **Ad Fed does not match pairs but will introduce interested mentors/mentees to one another.

MENTEES:

  • One-on-One Mentorship: Commit to schedule meetings. Responsible for setting agenda (casual/informal is fine!). Read Ad Fed’s “Mentorship Orientation” before beginning program.
  • Group Mentorship: If group interaction is more your style we recommend attending our quarterly Circle Events for a more casual open-discussion style mentorship.
