Motionpoems - Producer

Motionpoems is a 4-year-old nonprofit poetry film initiative now partnering with major American publishers to produce 12-15 poetry shorts annually for big-screen and online distribution. All films to date are at motionpoems.com.

Motionpoems is seeking an ambitious, self-starting Producer to bring artist relations, project coordination, and production skills to a 12-month project, July 2013-June 2014. The Producer will manage production of a dozen new Motionpoems shorts and organize a public screening and online distribution of the films.

GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The goals of the project are to expand Motionpoems’ network of contributing filmmakers and to deepen and strengthen Motionpoems’ evolving production model.

The Producer will:

- Work with Production Manager to recruit film artists and negotiate terms and contractual agreements.

- Work in concert with Production Manager to manage all film artist relationships and oversee production calendar.

- Coordinate database of artists and manage all artist releases, fees, W9’s, etc.

- Secure needed audio recordings from poets and musicians as needed, using university press offices, partnering music houses, etc.

- Coordinate all file prep, mastering, authoring and duplication as needed.

- Manage online distribution including maintenance of Vimeo site and content development for subscriber newsletter.

- Produce the annual screening in Minneapolis in conjunction with presenters, which may include Walker Art Center, MSP Int’l Film Festival, other partners.

- Research a possible NYC premiere and distribution partnership with Academy of American Poets.

- Assist in maintaining and deepening relationships with sponsors and partners.

- Develop / implement production evaluations; report results. Keep records.

- Follow up with all season participants to ensure future relationships.

The perfect candidate will have demonstrated production and project management experience, interpersonal and communication skills, and an appreciation for poets and relevant artists.

TERMS

This is a temporary, flexible, contract position. The position reports to Motionpoems’ Artistic Director but is supervised by the project’s Production Management Team (Egg Creative). The work is estimated to take 10-12 hours per week. Motionpoems can offer $15,000 for completion of this project to the right candidate. This position does not offer benefits, but there is room for growth and the contract may be renewed for the right candidate.
